Sports Premium

The Government is providing further funding to provide substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and will see money going directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. This funding has been extended and will continue for the 2023/24 financial year. Sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Key Targets during the academic year 2023 – 2024

The Premium is being used to meet the 5 main aims of the funding:

1. the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kickstarting healthy active lifestyles

2. the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement

3. additonal extra curricular experiences for pupil premium children

4. improved resources and playground areas for pupils

5. increased participation in competitive sport

We can achieve these by:

  • hiring qualified sports coaches to work with children in extra curricular clubs
  • supporting and engaging  the least active children through new or additional clubs
  • providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport
  • running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport
  • providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs
  • pooling the additional funding with that of other local schools
  • providing welfare staff with CPD as well as providing a greater variety of activities at lunchtime for the pupils
  • investing money in new playground line markings and equipment.
  • having an increased focus on Pupil Premium children and how often they access extra curricular clubs

St Wulstan’s and St Edmund’s will be working alongside Fleetwood Town Football Club Community Sports who will provide their core and hub offer which will include 36 weeks of extracurricular activities. We will also be working alongside Wyre and Fylde Sports Partnership who will provide extra-curricular activities throughout the year.  After school clubs (archery, cheerleading, tennis, basketball, tri golf, tag rugby, hockey, cricket, rounders and football) will be provided for Years R-6. All lessons and some clubs will be supported by a teacher or teaching assistant to further develop skills within the staff workforce.
