At St. Wulstan's and St. Edmund's we recognise that listening to music and creating music together provide many benefits for our children, from mood boosting and developing team spirit to supporting our children in remembering key learning through songs. In the early years and Key Stage 1, the children experience playing a variety of percussion instruments before moving on to learning to read musical notation in Key Stage 2 and experience playing a range of instruments:
Years 2 and 3 - glockenspiel
Years 4 and 5 - recorder
Throughout their time with us, children sing hymns; learn songs to support their learning across the curriculum (times tables songs in maths, the continents and oceans in geography, prepositions in grammar and many more) and are involved in musical performances and plays at Christmas and at the end of the school year, as well as local events such as the Celebration of Music at Blackpool's famous Opera House!
